Day 10
Ras Al Hadd– Sur – Wadi Shab – Bimmah Sink Hole –
Today we drive north up the coast. Our first stop is at Sur. which historically was a center of shipping trade to East-Africa. Sur is also famous for boat building and Dhows can still be seen being built in the traditional way that has not changed for hundreds of years (except the engine of course). Just after Sur we pass one of the main economic life lines of Oman, the LNG plant. This is where Gas is compressed under great pressure into liquid form and is transferred to giant LNG tankers and shipped to energy hungry markets around the world. We then drive to the very popular Wadi Shab. A hike along Wadi Shab is not very challenging, however it can get very slippery in the rock pools before entering the caves, so please ensure you bring proper footwear that you don’t mind getting wet. To reach the beautiful waterfall at the end of the hike you must swim through two small pools and a key hole cave! If you aren’t confident with swimming, please let us know and our guide will carry a life-jacket for you. Bring a waterproof camera if you have one! After lunch at a local restaurant we drive to Hawiyat Najm Park where the popular Bimmah Sink Hole is located. The Sink Hole is a lovely place to swim and jump of the rocks or just dip your feet in for a fantastic free fish spa as it contains many “doctor fish”. After relaxing w drive along the coast and turn off near Dibah en route to the majestic Wadi Arbeieen
Day 11
Wadi Arbeieen – Wadi Dayqah Dam – Wadi Mayh
After breakfast we will swim in the large rock pool with a beautiful waterfall. Its great fun to jump off the rocks and swim up against the flow of the waterfall. After drying off we drive through a geological wonder land and then through Wadi Dayqah to visit the new Wadi Dayqah Dam and reservoir. The Dam was built in 2012 its quite an engineering marvel, the Dam holds back a reservoir that can store up to 100 million cubic meters of water. The reservoir is surrounded by a nice park so a great place to relax and maybe soak up some sun. After a picnic lunch we head back to Muscat via Wadi Mayh. The drive through Wadi Mayh gives a snapshot of the Omani way of life in the wadis with old houses and lush date plantations What a contrast to the modern urbanization of Muscat which is so close
