Diving in Oman

With a long coastline of over 3000 km there is some great scuba diving in Oman.

The main areas for diving are:

  • Musandam in the north
  • Around the capital area Muscat
  • Around Salalah in the South.

Overall the best diving is around the Daymaniyat islands where on occasions it is possible to dive with whale sharks.

Oman Diving
It is possible to dive in Oman any day of the year but of course it is weather dependent particularly the Daymaniyat islands which are very exposed to the weather. Visibility can also be an issue and tends to be better in the summer months when the weather is warmer. From July to November it is possible to see Whale Sharks.

Many of our guests are interested in a diving trip at the beginning or the end of their overland adventure tour. But remember if you book it at the end of your trip you should allow 24 hrs after diving before flying back.

Some of the popular Dive sites around muscat are shown on this interactive map:

For dive sites on the Daymaniyat Islands and Fahal Island the boats leave from the Al Mouj Marina this is less than a 15 minute drive from the Nomad Guest House The boats leave Al Mouj at 0800 hrs and return about 1500 hrs. There will be two dives and when relaxing between dives the crew will prepare a BBQ lunch.

For dive sites in the Bandar Khayran area and the Al Munassir Wreck the boats leave from the Marina Bandar Al Rowdha.
The boats leave Bandar Al Rowdha at 0800 hrs and return about 1330 hrs. There will be two dives and when relaxing between dives the crew will prepare a BBQ lunch.

The Nomad Guest house is very conveniently located for anyone diving from Al Mouj or  taking courses at the Dive centre. The Guest House is also very near to the Kite surfing on Azaiba beach.

How cool would it be to sign up for both a kitesurfing course and a diving course. When the wind is up and the sea is rough you kite surf when there is little wind and sea is calm you dive.

Frequently Asked Questions

When is the best time to dive in Oman?

Diving in Oman (Muscat) is done all year round. From July to November is the annual whale shark season in Oman. Visibility is at its best in April-May or September-November.

What is the water temperature year around?

Water temperature ranges a lot here in Oman. In summer we have warm water with up to 32 degrees on the surface and in winter the surface water temperature is around 26 degrees. As soon as you descend the water gets colder of course, with around 28 degrees in summer and 24 in winter.

Do you offer transportation or pickup from the hotel?

No, we do not offer transportation or Hotel pick-up. We have free parking behind our Dive Center and if you do not have your own car, we recommend to use the Otaxi App to get the best fares around Muscat

How long do I have to wait until I can fly after one or two dives?

Flying after scuba diving is one of the more widely known risks to divers. The pressure in a plane’s cabin is comparable to a fast ascension while diving. This increases the chance of decompression sickness. The general rule is to wait 24 hours to fly after diving

Daymaniyat Islands offer easy and quite shallow Scuba Diving with maximum depths of 26 meters.

Dress modest when arriving at our Dive Center – but there is no problem with wearing a normal Bikini as soon as the boat leaves the marina.

Is there a toilet on the boat?

Yes, we do have a toilet on the boat. Toilet and Showers can also be found in the Dive Center.

Your safety is always our top priority. If the weather or sea conditions are not safe for diving, we will inform you and we can reschedule the dive depending on your availability.

In case of emergency where is the nearest decompression chamber?

The nearest decompression chamber is located at the Royal Hospital in Bowsher, Muscat – 20 minutes from our Dive Center.
